Dr. Guzick has spent a lifetime in the field of medicine with numerous impressive and innovative contributions as a physician, a researcher, a dean and an administrator.

He wanted the portrait to focus on his role as the guiding force behind the creation of two magnificent hospitals in the UF Health System, where he oversaw every detail from the buildings' inception to their full functionality.

Since Dr. Guzick was literally responsible for each and every brick, Marvin felt that if he were to paint an out-of-focus building behind the doctor – typical of the way buildings appear in photos, as well as the way backgrounds are conventionally rendered in portraits – the painting would not be faithful to the spirit of the achievement. Instead, Marvin chose to take on the formidable task of delicately balancing the faithful depiction of each detail while maintaining the illusion of atmospheric depth and air.

The end result is a masterful composition balancing color, texture and light, an extraordinary and befitting homage to Dr. Guzick's legacy.
