Hart-Cohen Family Portrait

Posthumous Portrait of Ariel Hart M.D.

Oil Colour on Linen Canvas ~ 71 x 49 inches.

Marvin was commissioned by Michael T. Cohen to create a painting of fond remembrance, for himself and his three children, shortly after the sad and premature passing of his wife, Ariel. After a long discussion they both agreed that the portrait should be a celebration of happier times.

Ariel is reading from a family favorite, "The True Meaning of Smekday" by Adam Rex, surrounded by her beloved family, in the garden she designed. Michael wanted the portrait to reflect the family's informal lifestyle.

Marvin created this complex composition unified by overlapping triangular relationships. Since Ariel is the focal point, her pink sweater contrasts against the predominantly blue and green color scheme, with a smattering of pink accents to unify the overall composition.
