Oil Colour on Linen Canvas ~ 30 x 24 inches.

This posthumous portrait of Jackie Laskoff was commissioned by her husband following her passing, with the intention not of mourning, but of celebrating a lifelong bond rooted in devotion, friendship, and enduring love.

Jackie and her husband Robert—known to many as Bob—were high school sweethearts whose relationship spanned decades. The portrait was conceived as a tribute to companionship and the quiet accumulation of shared experiences that define a life together.

Working primarily from a photograph taken in the 1970s, the objective was not simple replication. Rather, the intention was to create a visage through which her husband could continue to experience joy, familiarity, and connection.

Elements within the portrait carry personal significance. Jackie loved to travel, reflected subtly through the inclusion of an Irish fisherman’s sweater, while yellow roses reference warmth, affection, and enduring remembrance.

Jackie and Bob Laskoff were also known for their philanthropy and support of educational and cultural initiatives. Their generosity has extended to institutions supporting the arts and public enrichment. Evidence of philanthropic involvement appears in university and foundation acknowledgements.

Posthumous portraiture presents unique challenges. Often the available reference material is limited, requiring interpretation, sensitivity, and an understanding of what family members most deeply recognize as the essence of the person.

For Marvin, the objective was not merely likeness, but to create an image capable of offering comfort and celebrating a relationship that had endured a lifetime.
