| These are examples of student portraits from some recent oil portrait painting workshops. These paintings are works in progress whose purpose to reinforce the principles being taught and to augment the learning experience. The goal is not necessarily to come away with finished portraits, but to be able to apply what was learned to future paintings. That said, these paintings show just how much can be accomplished in a short amount if one is well directed and purposeful. All the paintings were created using Marvin's innovative palette arrangement of earth-tone colors, which has the ability to match any complexion, regardless of gender, ethnicity or age. Most importantly these paintings represent significant breakthroughs for each artist. If you're interested you can read their feedback from their workshop experiences. The object of Marvin's teaching is to train his students to see objectively, and to provide them with the knowledge and skills to best express their unique personal vision. These paintings exemplify that an artist doesn't need to sacrifice their personal style in order to improve their painting skills.
