| These are examples of student portraits from Marvin's portrait and figure painting classes. These paintings are works in progress that allow his students the opportunity to apply the principles being taught in order to facillitate the learning experience. The goal is not necessarily to come away with a finished portrait from the workshop, but to be able to apply what was learned to future paintings. That said, these paintings show just how much can be accomplished in a short amount if one is focused and well directed. The object of Marvin's teaching is to train his students to see objectively, and to provide them with the knowledge and skills to best express their unique personal vision. These paintings exemplify that an artist doesn't need to sacrifice their personal style in order to improve their painting skills. You can follow this link if you're interested in seeing figure painting examples from Marvin's portrait and figure classes. There is also a gallery page of portrait workshop student paintings.
